Planula gets sought after GREEN star from AAAT

AAAT Green Star awarded to PLANULA B&B Retreat

AAAT Green Star awarded to PLANULA B&B Retreat

In our recent STAR rating assessment we were awarded the Green STAR for being a very environmentally friendly accommodation. This seemed to be the next logical step after we already use solar water heating and all or our remaining energy comes from renewable resources.

How does Green STAR Accreditation work?

To be awarded a Green STAR a property must achieve adequate points against a set of practical environmental criteria. These criteria include:

Energy efficiency – eg: energy efficient light bulbs and fixtures, zoned heating and cooling, signage reminding guests to turn off lights and air-conditioning, correct seals on doors and windows and natural ventilation available.

Waste minimisation – eg: recycling program, towel re-use option, optional newspapers, printer cartridge recycling, linen no change options.

Water management – eg: dual flush toilets, environmentally friendly cleaning products, unbleached paper products, no leaking taps, water efficient dishwasher, use of recycled water on gardens.

Green STAR is a self assessment program followed by a desktop audit conducted by AAA Tourism. On successful completion of this audit, a property is awarded a Green STAR Accrediation. An Assessor will conduct the Green STAR audit at the time of the cyclical STAR Rating assessment.
